July 17, 2014 – Ahead of a meeting with President Obama on immigration and unaccompanied children at the southern border, Rep. Luis Gutiérrez spoke to Jose Diaz-Balart on MSNBC. He said the Hispanic Caucus supports additional funds to protect child refugees from Central America and to ensure their cases are reviewed quickly but the Congressman strongly opposes any effort to weaken the protections that unaccompanied children have under law. The Congress set up a process to for immigration judges to review cases and determine whether their cases qualify for asylum or protection under the law.
