President must enforce the law, protect kids at the border

July 10, 2014 – Congressman Luis V. Gutiérrez (IL-4) responds to the emergency funding request that President Obama sent to Congress to provide the resources needed for the departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services to respond to the crisis of unaccompanied minors fleeing Central America and ensure their cases are quickly processed. The Congressman states that he supports the request and calls out Republicans, who after criticizing the President for “not following the law,” are now asking the President to not follow the law that Congress passed requiring the children be cared for and have their cases heard by a judge. He calls on House Republicans to stop the blame game and scapegoating of young children and focus instead on working to solve this tough national problem.
